in-Visibilia
7th September 2024 – 5th January 2025
The exhibition will be showing a very special sequence of small photographs, concentrating on much vaster realities, often anonymous, which accompany us on our daily journeys through the city: walls, marble, old billboards, even trash cans.
The images verge on the abstract, are highly poetic with pictorial connotations, full of fascination and mystery: landscapes of the soul mirroring the feeling that our lives are moved by something hidden beyond the immediately visible. The title is in-Visibilia, an expression that plays on a double reading, on the one hand referring back to what really does exist “inside visible things”, but at the same time affirming that these are things that are normally “invisible” to most people. The fascination of a humble poem or the imaginary concealed in a large wall, in the folds of a stone or in a puddle.
Although pictorial, the photographs have not undergone alterations. These are images that have not been cut out or artificially coloured, if anything the shades have been dimmed, as is only natural for a photographer who has always preferred black and white to colour.
Placed one alongside the other and composed in squares or sections, though without any hierarchy and with no narrative purpose, the images create a stimulating dialogue between the parts, so that in the end everything can be considered a single whole that epitomizes them: the sign of a totality that emerges despite the individual nature of each shot taken in the places or on the walls that contain our journeys through daily life.
